What if your media investment was working hard at your front door, too?
Carnegie Mellon’s Tepper School of Business shows what that looks like. When an applicant is interested in the MBA student experience, the guide answers in writing, then puts alumni voices right in the conversation.
- A written answer that points to a person. The guide invites the applicant to contact a student ambassador.
- Alumni cards beneath the answer. Each has a photo, a name, and a short quote.
- A next step within reach. An Apply here button appears in the same conversation.
Each card puts a peer’s voice in front of the applicant at the moment of a specific question.
Why a peer’s voice and a moving picture matter
Conversations with images or audio ran about 84 percent longer than text-only conversations, in a study of more than 146,000 users on a consumer chat platform.
Next-day return was about 32 percent higher in conversations with images or audio, in the same study.
One industry benchmark found retail pages with user-generated content converting at 6.7 times the rate of pages without it.

Your team chooses what appears
Residence hall tours, financial aid explainers, a student talking about their major: the shelf shows what your team decides belongs there. It can carry playable video cards from YouTube, Vimeo, TikTok, or Instagram, so an applicant can watch without leaving the conversation.
Add
An administrator pastes a link from YouTube, Vimeo, TikTok, or Instagram, or imports a whole YouTube channel.
Choose
Review the list and select what belongs. Make each video available to the public-facing guide or to the internal team, and set an optional end date for time-sensitive content.
Learn
Each video’s performance metrics will soon appear in the skilly dashboard, so your team can see which clips applicants watch.
Nothing is added until an administrator confirms it.
